SmoothRide Eggbutt Snaffle

SmoothRide bits are made of stainless steel that has been sanded down for horses' comfort. 

This bit features a curved mouthpiece as well as cleverly designed lozenge which continues along the anatomical shape of the bit. The curvature in this bit creates a mild tongue relief if worn in the classic way. The loose ring, eggbutt, elevator and gag bits of this line can be used “upside down” to provide mild bar relief and give you a hint whether your horse prefers more pressure to be directed towards the center or the side of the tongue above the bars.

We find this to be a great starter bit as it is versatile, generally well accepted and tends to take up less space in the horse’s mouth without being unnecessarily harsh. Horses that resist the flat links often seen in classic double jointed snaffles tend to like the smoothness of this bit.

Eggbutt cheekpieces are often preferred by young horses or those who require more stability in mouth than the loose ring offers. For drafts with fleshy mouths, it also helps prevent pinching. A simple bit, it often is a good starting piece for a young horse beginning their training, or for horses learning new ways to do things.
